Papers, 1858-1870.

The collection consists of letters (1858-1870) and Harbert's diary for 1866. In the diary Harbert details beginning law school in Bloomington, returning to Terre Haute where he works in a shoe store, moving to Ann Arbor to continue law school, and commissioning a painting by Terre Haute artist James D. Wright. He mentions several people who will be important in his life--law partner Daley and Lizzie Boynton, his future wife. The letters, mainly to Harbert, are mostly from his Wabash College roommate William R. Hardy, and one is from artist James D. Wright.
